Objectives. This study aimed to compare the effects of an 8-week intervention combining TRX suspension and functional circuit training, as well as functional circuit training alone, and regular basketball practice on biomotor abilities and physiological adaptations in adolescent basketball players.
Materials and Methods. A total of 60 adolescent male basketball players were randomly divided into three groups: combined TRX suspension and functional circuit training group (TRXG, n = 20); functional circuit training group (FCG, n = 20); and control group (CG, n = 20). The training lasted 8 weeks, with sessions performed three times per week.Sprint speed, agility, countermovement jump (CMJ) performance, body fat percentage, skeletal muscle mass, resting heart rate, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured before and after the intervention. A mixed design ANOVA with Bonferroni comparisons was used for data analysis.
Results. All biomotor and physiological variables showed significant Group × Time interactions (all p < .001; partial η² = 0.64–0.82). The TRXG exhibited a greater improvement across all outcomes compared to both the FCG and CG. Notably, there were large interaction effects for sprint performance (F(2,57) = 75.32, p < .001, ηp² = 0.73), agility (ηp² = 0.82), countermovement jump (ηp² = 0.78), body composition, resting heart rate, and blood pressure.
Conclusions. The findings suggest that functional circuit training enhances biomotor and physiological parameters. Furthermore, incorporating TRX suspension exercises yields greater improvements than functional circuit training alone and may provide additional benefits when integrated into a progressively structured and supervised conditioning programme.
